“We are delighted to confirm that Lesotho has penned a deal with Formula 1 to run Africa’s Grand Prix,” Prime Minister Sam Maketane confirmed in Maseru. “It will race on a new 3 Billion Loti circuit built on the banks of the Khatse Dam. We offered the choice of developing a new Maluti Mountain Circuit, or the traditional Round the Houses route in Maseru. The Mountain was the unanimous choice.

The Bostik Lesotho Mountain Prix will form part of the 2028 Formula 1 Calendar. Lesotho’s bid trumps applications from South Africa, Rwanda, Nigeria and others. It is expected to triple the Mountain Kingdom’s GNP over the next decade. The new Maluti Mountain Circuit is part of a 10-billion Loti redevelopment. Including 25,000 new accommodation beds to make the Lesotho Highlands a top international destination.

“The Bostik Lesotho Mountain Prix will join the 2028 Formula 1 World Championship,” Formula 1 Director of New Business Primo d’Aprile concluded. “Lesotho offered by far the best solution to our African Grand Prix designs. It’s a fresh, different and novel bid that will also help develop the Mountain Nation to new highs.”
